Emergency lighting is there for one important reason, and that is to help people safely find their way out of a building if the normal lighting fails.
But simply having emergency lights installed isn't enough. They need to be regularly checked and tested to make sure they will actually work when they're needed.

At Marcaz Electrical Appliance Testing, we provide professional Emergency Lighting Testing for businesses, landlords and organisations across Sheffield, Rotherham, South Yorkshire and the surrounding areas.
We test and inspect existing emergency lighting systems. We do not design or install emergency lighting systems.

Emergency lighting forms an important part of your building's fire safety arrangements.
If the normal lighting fails because of a power cut, electrical fault or fire, emergency lighting should provide sufficient illumination to help occupants safely follow escape routes and locate exits.
Regular testing helps identify problems such as:
Finding these problems during routine testing is considerably better than discovering them during an emergency.

Emergency lighting should normally be subject to two main types of routine test:
Monthly Functional Test
A short functional test should be carried out at least monthly.
The normal lighting supply is interrupted using the appropriate test facility and the emergency lights are checked to confirm that they illuminate correctly.
The results should be recorded in the premises' Emergency Lighting Log Book.
Depending upon your arrangements, these monthly checks can often be carried out by a suitably instructed member of your own staff.
Annual Full Duration Test
At least once a year, emergency lighting should undergo a full rated-duration test.
For many systems this means operating the emergency lighting from its battery supply for up to three hours, although the actual required duration depends upon the system and premises.
This test helps establish whether the batteries and fittings are capable of continuing to operate for their required duration rather than simply confirming that the light comes on.

Our testing is systematic and properly documented.
Where applicable, we will:
If we identify defects, these will be clearly recorded so that you know what further action is required.

We provide a clear reports detailing the emergency lights tested, their locations and the results
You'll also receive an Emergency Lighting Testing Certificate for your compliance records.
Where appropriate, we can also help establish a practical testing record for premises where existing information is incomplete.
We believe in being clear about the limits of the service we provide.
Marcaz provides Emergency Lighting inspection and testing services. We do not design or install emergency lighting systems.
If our testing identifies a defective fitting, battery, electrical fault or a concern about the design or coverage of the existing system, we will record the issue and recommend that you seek advice from an appropriately competent emergency-lighting or electrical contractor. We can recommend these to you if you want us to, but we do not try to push our trusted partners onto you.
We won't pretend to provide a service that falls outside our area of competence.

We can provide Emergency Lighting Testing for a wide range of commercial and organisational premises, including:
We understand that testing can sometimes affect normal lighting arrangements, particularly during a full-duration test, so we'll work with you to arrange testing at a sensible time and minimise disruption wherever possible.
We're not interested in simply walking around your building, ticking boxes and disappearing.
Our approach is based around proper testing, accurate records and practical advice.
When you use Marcaz, you can expect:
Most importantly, if we find something that isn't right, we'll tell you.
Because when it comes to emergency lighting, it's not enough for the light to be there — it needs to work when it's needed.

Whether you have a small commercial premises or a larger site with emergency lighting throughout the building, we're happy to discuss your requirements.
